The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has carried out an enforcement operation at Oke-Arin Market in Lagos State, uncovering banned alcoholic beverages and suspected counterfeit food and drink products.
During the operation, NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement officers discovered sachet and PET-bottled alcoholic beverages below 200 millilitres, which are prohibited under the agency’s regulatory restrictions.
The products were reportedly concealed in different shops within the market, apparently to evade detection by regulatory authorities.
The enforcement team also uncovered unregistered food products and alcoholic beverages suspected to be fake or counterfeit.
Following the discovery, the identified products were evacuated from the market as part of efforts to prevent them from reaching unsuspecting consumers.
The operation forms part of NAFDAC’s ongoing enforcement activities aimed at sanitising the Nigerian market, protecting public health and ensuring that only products that meet established regulatory requirements are allowed into circulation.
The agency has repeatedly warned traders, distributors and manufacturers against the sale and distribution of prohibited, unregistered and counterfeit products.
For consumers, the discovery is another reminder to exercise caution when purchasing food, beverages and alcoholic drinks, particularly products with questionable packaging, labelling or registration details.
NAFDAC’s enforcement efforts are critical to protecting Nigerians from potentially dangerous products and strengthening confidence in the country’s food and drug regulatory system.
