The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command arrests three suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate over the killing of a legal practitioner, Barrister Princess Chigbo Nwamaka Mediatrix, in Abuja. The arrests mark a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb violent crime and dismantle criminal networks operating within the nation’s capital.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the arrests follow direct orders by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, for a thorough investigation into the lawyer’s death and similar crimes. Acting on intelligence, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad track the suspects through digital and field-based investigations across Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan-Tata communities in the Kubwa axis of the FCT.
Police identify the arrested suspects as Saifullahi Yusuf, 22; Ishau Yusuf, 24; and Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia. The suspects, who are from Kaduna State, allegedly operate as part of a long-running “one-chance” robbery group known for targeting unsuspecting commuters, especially during festive periods. Investigators confirm that two of the suspects are biological brothers.
Preliminary findings show that on January 5, 2026, the victim unknowingly enters a black Volkswagen Golf vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway. Police say the occupants later reveal themselves as criminals and attempt to force the victim to part with money. During the incident, the victim sustains fatal injuries after being forced out of the moving vehicle.
According to Mediaplusng.com, investigators recover the victim’s mobile phone through digital tracking, leading to the suspects’ arrest. The suspects reportedly admit to selling the phone in Dei-Dei for ₦120,000 and sharing the proceeds among themselves and another suspect who remains at large. Police confirm that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and other possible members of the syndicate.
During the operation, officers recover several items believed to be linked to the group’s criminal activities. These include scissors, knives, a long chain used to restrain victims, and a plier. Police say the recovered items are now exhibits and will be presented in court as investigations continue.
The FCT Police Command states that the arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and coordinated operations. Authorities emphasize that the investigation remains active, with a focus on uncovering additional accomplices and preventing further attacks linked to the syndicate.
CP Miller Dantawaye commends the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication. He reassures residents that the Command remains committed to making Abuja safer and ensuring that those responsible for violent crimes face justice. The police leadership reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on armed robbery, kidnapping, and related offences.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered or suspicious vehicles, and report any unusual activity to security agencies. The police urge the public to make use of emergency lines and cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely information that can help prevent crime.
As investigations continue, the FCT Police Command promises to provide further updates and assures the public that all suspects connected to the case will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
