United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that the situation facing Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank remains deeply alarming, declaring that “the situation is simply out of control.”
Guterres says Palestinians continue to endure severe hardship amid the ongoing crisis, renewing calls for urgent action towards a lasting and peaceful resolution.
The UN chief is urging renewed international efforts to establish a credible political pathway that addresses the conflict’s underlying issues, ends the occupation and delivers a two-State solution.
The proposed solution envisages Israel and an independent Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security, in line with relevant United Nations resolutions.
Guterres has consistently emphasised that a sustainable peace must be built on international law, respect for human rights and the legitimate aspirations of both Palestinians and Israelis.
His warning highlights continuing concerns over the humanitarian situation in Gaza and conditions facing Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
The United Nations continues to call for measures that protect civilians, facilitate humanitarian assistance and create conditions for meaningful political negotiations.
As diplomatic efforts continue, the challenge remains turning international calls for peace into concrete action that can end the suffering and establish a just and lasting settlement.
