Former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, is leading efforts by the All Progressives Congress to strengthen its political structures across the South-West ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fashola, who serves as the South-West Zonal Coordinator for Stakeholders’ Mobilisation in the APC Presidential Campaign Council, is coordinating engagements with party leaders and other stakeholders across the region.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation, addressing internal disagreements and expanding political engagement ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
At a stakeholders’ engagement in Lagos on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Fashola called on APC leaders to work towards reconciliation, urging party members to put aside their differences and accommodate aggrieved interests.
The meeting brought together representatives from the six South-West states, with discussions focusing on building effective political structures and improving coordination at state, local government and ward levels.
According to Fashola, the committee invited 10 representatives from each state to participate in the consultation and contribute ideas towards strengthening the party’s engagement framework.
He explained that the stakeholders would return to their respective states to establish structures for regular consultations, information gathering and addressing grievances within the party.
The former governor also emphasised the need to reach beyond existing party members by engaging community leaders, artisans, newly registered voters and individuals who have become less active in electoral participation.
He said the committee would undertake further engagements across the six states to understand local political realities and address issues requiring intervention.
Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, who also attended the meeting, called for unity among party members and urged stakeholders to work collectively towards the party’s 2027 electoral objectives.
Other political leaders and stakeholders at the engagement included Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Senator Gbenga Ashafa.
The meeting forms part of the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, with particular attention on stakeholder consultations, party cohesion and grassroots political structures across the South-West.
