Akwa Ibom State has recorded another remarkable achievement in the education sector as a public school teacher, Mr. Ephraim Jacob Inyangudo, emerges second runner-up in the 2026 Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition, winning a cash prize of ₦3 million.
Mr. Inyangudo, who teaches at Comprehensive Secondary School, Ediene, in Abak Local Government Area, distinguished himself among 2,000 teachers from across Nigeria who participated in the highly competitive national contest.
His achievement reflects years of dedication, innovation and commitment to educational excellence. He is also a recipient of more than 20 international, regional and national awards, including the 2022 Global Teacher Award presented by the Government of the United States of America.
The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Essien Umoh, joined other distinguished personalities at the grand finale held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
Congratulating the Akwa Ibom-born educator, Professor Umoh commended his resilience, professionalism and unwavering commitment to shaping the next generation, describing his recognition as a well-deserved victory for both the teacher and the state.
The state government says the achievement reinforces Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to education under the ARISE Agenda, which places emphasis on quality learning, improved educational infrastructure, teachers’ welfare and recognition of excellence in the teaching profession.
Beyond the ₦3 million prize, Mr. Inyangudo’s recognition sends a powerful message about the importance of investing in teachers and celebrating those who go beyond the classroom to inspire, mentor and transform young lives.
The Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition is an initiative of the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, with this year’s edition supported by Union Bank, Air Peace, Eko Hotels and Suites, and Honda Manufacturing Nigeria Limited.
