Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has described President Bola Tinubu as a genius, insisting that the President’s academic credentials and international exposure distinguish him.
Speaking during an interview on national television Today, Alausa defended Tinubu’s educational background, claiming that the President graduated with a first-class degree in Accounting from Chicago State University in the United States.
The minister said he was familiar with the institution, having lived in Chicago for almost 30 years and visited the university several times.
He also claimed to have personally met several individuals who attended the university alongside President Tinubu.
In his words, the President is literally a genius.
Alausa further described Tinubu as Nigeria’s first internationally exposed president, highlighting his American education and professional background.
The minister’s comments come amid renewed public scrutiny of the President’s academic qualifications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu’s academic records have remained a subject of political debate since the controversy surrounding his Chicago State University certificate during the 2023 presidential election tribunal proceedings.
While the university confirmed that Tinubu attended the institution and graduated in 1979 with a degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting, the specific first-class classification cited by Alausa has not been independently established by the university’s published records.
The minister’s remarks also come as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Alausa, who has taken up a mobilisation role in the APC Presidential Campaign Council, has expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that the administration should be judged by its achievements.
His comments have added another dimension to the ongoing national conversation about presidential leadership, academic qualifications and the issues likely to shape the 2027 election.
