President Bola Tinubu has officially inaugurated the newly completed international terminal of the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, describing the project as the fulfilment of a long-standing vision.
The President commended Governor Umo Eno for sustaining the airport project and translating the aspirations of previous administrations into reality.
President Tinubu performed the inauguration on Friday, November 6, during his one-day official visit to Akwa Ibom State.
Describing the visit as a homecoming, the President recalled his professional connection with the state, where he once worked as an auditor with Mobil, an oil company.
He also acknowledged that the airport was named after a former governor of the state, Victor Attah, whose administration initiated the vision behind the project.
President Tinubu praised Governor Eno for demonstrating continuity in governance and ensuring the completion of the international terminal.
He disclosed that he readily approved the state’s request for international flight operations after reviewing the relevant memorandum submitted by the governor.
The President described Governor Eno as a man of conscience, commitment and vision, noting that the completion of the terminal demonstrated the importance of building on the foundations laid by previous administrations.
Beyond the airport inauguration, President Tinubu also commissioned the airport hospital, Aviation Village and the Nsit Atai–Okobo Road.
The airport terminal is expected to strengthen Akwa Ibom’s aviation infrastructure, improve passenger experience and support the state’s ambitions for international connectivity, tourism, trade and investment.
The President was accompanied by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and other senior government officials.
They were received by Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, and other government functionaries.
The inauguration marks another milestone in the development of aviation infrastructure in Akwa Ibom State, with the Victor Attah International Airport positioned as a key gateway for the state’s economic and tourism ambitions.
