Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has declared that President Bola Tinubu enjoys an unprecedented level of political consensus in support of his re-election, as preparations begin to gather momentum ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Soludo makes the statement during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he expresses support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition despite belonging to the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Addressing political leaders and other dignitaries at the event, the Anambra governor argues that the level of support surrounding the President represents a significant moment in Nigeria’s political history.
“Look around the history of Nigeria. There has been no time in our history when you have a consensus of opinion that one man, President Tinubu, deserves to be re-elected in this country,” Soludo says.
The governor points to the presence of about 33 state governors at the inauguration as evidence of what he describes as a broad political consensus behind Tinubu.
His remarks place the spotlight on the growing political alliances and cross-party relationships emerging as political leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Soludo’s endorsement is particularly notable because he belongs to APGA, a party separate from the APC, which controls the federal government.
His support highlights the possibility of political cooperation across party lines, although individual parties and political leaders may continue to hold different positions on national policies and electoral strategies.
Beyond the politics of re-election, Soludo also expresses support for the Tinubu administration’s economic reform programme, describing the direction of the reforms as difficult but necessary.
The governor’s comments come amid continuing public debate over the effects of economic changes on households, businesses and the wider Nigerian economy.
Nigeria continues to face pressure from the cost of living, food prices, transportation expenses and other challenges affecting the purchasing power of citizens.
While supporters of the administration argue that economic reforms are necessary to address structural problems, critics continue to question their immediate impact on ordinary Nigerians and the pace at which improvements are being delivered.
Soludo says the next phase should focus on accelerating reforms and ensuring that economic stability translates into shared prosperity.
His position underscores the importance of moving beyond economic policy adjustments to measurable improvements in employment, investment, household welfare and business productivity.
For the Tinubu administration, the challenge is to demonstrate that its policies can deliver tangible benefits while maintaining economic stability.
For political parties, the approach of the 2027 elections creates an opportunity to present their records, policies and proposals to Nigerian voters.
Mediaplusng.com reports that Soludo’s declaration represents his assessment of the political landscape and his stated support for Tinubu’s re-election bid. His comments do not, on their own, establish a nationwide consensus among voters, whose views will ultimately be expressed through the electoral process.
As political consultations and campaign preparations continue, attention is likely to focus on the alliances formed by political leaders, the performance of the federal government and the issues that matter most to Nigerians.
The 2027 presidential election is expected to provide another major test of the relationship between political endorsements, party mobilisation and voters’ decisions at the ballot box.
