Wike Demands Statewide Victories

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has challenged state governors and political leaders to ensure President Bola Tinubu secures electoral victories in their respective states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike delivers the message during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, stressing that the President’s re-election campaign requires more than national-level support and political endorsements.

According to the minister, governors and political leaders must demonstrate their influence by mobilising voters and securing electoral support within their states.

“If you don’t deliver your state and the President wins, don’t say we have won,” Wike warns.

The statement underscores his position that a presidential victory should not automatically translate into a collective celebration for political leaders who fail to secure support in their own states.

Wike’s remarks place pressure on governors and other political stakeholders to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, coordinate campaign activities and demonstrate their capacity to influence electoral outcomes.

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, political parties are expected to rely heavily on their state structures, local government networks and ward-level organisations to reach voters.

Governors, in particular, occupy important positions in state politics because of their relationships with party officials, community leaders and political organisations. However, their ability to influence voters can vary from one state to another.

Wike’s message therefore highlights the importance the campaign places on translating political structures and alliances into votes on election day.

The minister’s intervention also comes amid continuing political realignments ahead of the next presidential contest, with political figures from different parties expressing support for Tinubu’s re-election ambition.

However, political endorsements and campaign declarations do not necessarily guarantee electoral success. Voters ultimately determine the outcome through their participation in the electoral process.

For the APC and its allies, the challenge will be to turn campaign activities into measurable support across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The effectiveness of this mobilisation will depend on several factors, including public confidence in government policies, the state of the economy, security conditions and the ability of political leaders to engage citizens on issues affecting their daily lives.

Mediaplusng.com reports that Wike’s remarks highlight the importance of state-level mobilisation in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

The minister’s warning also raises questions about how political leaders will measure their performance during the campaign and whether their influence within their respective states will translate into votes for the President.

As the election approaches, governors and party officials are likely to face increasing expectations to demonstrate their organisational strength, maintain political alliances and engage voters across their constituencies.

Ultimately, the 2027 contest will test the ability of political parties to convert campaign promises, endorsements and mobilisation efforts into electoral support, while Nigerians decide who will lead the country for the next presidential term.
