Former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, Bamidele Akingboye, has died. He was the party’s flagbearer in the November 16, 2024 governorship election.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Akingboye passed away on Wednesday at his residence in Victoria Garden City, Lagos. The news was confirmed in a statement issued by his aide, Oyeniyi Iwakun, who described him as a man of integrity, humility, and generosity.
“Known for his unwavering values, Akingboye left a lasting impact as a successful businessman and mentor to many within and outside Nigeria,” Iwakun said. He added that the late politician is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings, while the family has asked for privacy as they mourn.
Mediaplusng.com reports that funeral details and burial arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
Akingboye, who contested the 2024 Ondo governorship election on the SDP platform, lost to the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
