The father of Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel has spoken publicly following the tragic death of his son after a collision during a football match between FC Andorra and CD Tenerife.
The incident reportedly occurred when de Miguel collided with goalkeeper Owono, suffering a devastating impact that caused him to collapse on the pitch.
In an emotional account, his father described the heartbreaking moment he witnessed the incident while watching the match at a neighbourhood viewing centre.
He said he immediately broke down in tears after seeing the collision and rushed with members of his family to Tenerife to be with his son at the hospital.
According to him, Jesús eventually died in his arms, leaving the entire family devastated.
The grieving father also expressed concern about the future of his son’s wife, María, and their young daughter, Carla, following the tragedy.
He appealed to family members, friends and well-wishers for prayers and support, saying the loss was an unbearable experience for the family.
Beyond mourning his son, the father called on the Spanish government and football authorities to give the incident the attention it deserves and ensure that the circumstances surrounding the player’s death are properly investigated.
He said his greatest desire was to see justice for his son.
The tragedy has raised renewed concerns about player safety, emergency medical response and the protection of footballers during competitive matches.
As tributes continue to emerge, the family is left to grapple with the devastating loss of a husband, father and footballer.
May his soul rest in peace.
