Edo State Government has taken a major step towards establishing a state-owned airline, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with China Express Airline and KDN Aero.
The agreement marks the beginning of a proposed partnership aimed at establishing Edo Air, an initiative expected to strengthen air connectivity and expand economic opportunities across the state.
Announcing the development, the state government said the proposed airline goes beyond providing air transportation, describing it as an economic initiative designed to create employment, promote tourism, attract investment and support business growth.
The government also believes the airline will make air travel more accessible to residents while improving connections between Edo State and other economic destinations.
The initiative aligns with the state’s SHINE Agenda and its broader development objectives of creating opportunities, stimulating private-sector investment and improving the standard of living of residents.
With the signing of the MoU, attention will now turn to the practical arrangements required to bring the proposed airline into operation, including financing, aircraft acquisition, regulatory approvals, route development and operational management.
However, the signing of the agreement does not mean that flight operations have commenced.
The Edo State Government says its ambition is to establish an airline that will contribute to the state’s economic development and position Edo as a stronger destination for tourism, trade and investment.
