Tinubu To Launch Re-Election Campaign In Kaduna On October 24

Reading Time: 2 minutes

President Bola Tinubu is set to launch his 2027 re-election campaign in Kaduna State on October 24, according to the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari.

Yari announces the date on Friday after briefing the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on preparations for the campaign and plans for visits to states across the country.

He says Tinubu requests an update on the council’s activities and reviews the proposed campaign schedule.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the campaign council’s inaugural meeting is scheduled for October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall, ahead of the official flag-off in Kaduna ten days later.

Yari says the President has approved the proposed schedule of state visits, adding that the campaign team is preparing to begin activities immediately after the launch.

According to him, Port Harcourt in Rivers State and Maiduguri in Borno State are expected to be the next stops after Kaduna.

However, Yari says the full campaign timetable will be made public after the council’s inauguration.

The APC campaign chief also responds to questions about opposition candidates, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.

Yari expresses confidence in Tinubu’s political position, arguing that presidential candidates need support across both northern and southern Nigeria to compete nationally.

He claims Tinubu has support in more than ten states in each region, although the statement represents Yari’s assessment of the political landscape.

Yari also defends the administration’s record, saying the government believes its policies and actions provide a basis for its re-election campaign.

He maintains that the APC intends to focus on its achievements and continue with its programmes rather than rely solely on promises.

Tinubu appoints Yari as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council on August 22, 2026. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma serves as the council’s secretary.

The President chairs the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serve as vice chairmen.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027.

INEC’s timetable provides for campaigns to begin on August 19, 2026, and end on January 15, 2027, a day before the elections.

The electoral commission says 18 candidates are in the presidential race.

Among them are Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, who has former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate, and Peter Obi, who is contesting under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, according to the information provided.

As preparations continue, the Kaduna rally is expected to mark the formal start of Tinubu’s campaign activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
